ASTEKLIMA 2025 brings together 87 organisations and 138 activities at its 6th edition in the Basque Country
12/11/2025
The 6th ASTEKLIMA, the Basque Country Climate and Energy Week, came to an end after ten intense days of activity between October 17 and 26, with 138 activities spread over the three provinces.
This citizen awareness initiative, promoted by the Basque Government's Department of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability, in collaboration with Ihobe and the Basque Energy Agency-EVE, has seen significant growth in its programme compared to 2024, confirming the consolidation of an event that brings together citizens, institutions and companies around energy transition and climate action.
During the week, hundreds of people attended conferences, workshops, exhibitions, guided tours and community actions that are tackling today great environmental challenges in a practical way: sustainable mobility, energy efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and adaptation to climate change. Once again, the spirit of collaboration was the distinctive feature of ASTEKLIMA: a diverse and open programme, built on the joint efforts of administrations, associations, universities, cooperatives, companies and citizens.
45 town councils and more than 2,700 people committed to the project
The role of local action was key. More than 2,700 people took part in this year's activities, reflecting the public's commitment to climate action. 45 local councils were also directly involved in organising activities, representing 786,195 inhabitants from all over the Basque Country.
The initiative has brought together large towns and cities –such as Bilbao, Getxo, Barakaldo, Errenteria and Eibar– and small towns which share a common goal, each on their own scale: to make climate action part of everyday life. Local authorities have shown that sustainability can also be built at a local level, through initiatives ranging from energy communities and electric mobility routes to environmental education programmes and circular economy projects.
Moreover, ASTEKLIMA 2025 was once again backed by a wide network of 43 non-municipal organisations, which contributed knowledge, innovation and commitment. These include entities such as Aranzadi Zientzia Elkartea, Tecnalia, Goiener, Kalapie, Herribixi, EkiElkar and the Lurgaia Foundation, which made contributions through scientific, educational and citizen participation projects. Their work has reinforced the shared vision of a more sustainable, resilient Basque Country, where the energy transition is built on cooperation and social involvement.
KLIMA AZOKA, a travelling hub for raising public awareness
The Klima Azoka fair was once again one of the main attractions at ASTEKLIMA 2025, introducing the public to climate action through participatory activities, games and practical workshops on energy and sustainability. It visited ten Basque towns between October 17 and 26: Hernani, Getxo, Irun, Zalla, Amurrio, Arrasate, Legazpi, Mungia, Ortuella and Sobrón, transforming squares and public spaces into meeting points for learning about and taking action on climate change.
The results of this latest edition of Klima Azoka confirmed its success as a tool for raising awareness: 1,286 people took part in activities, with an average rating of 4.73 out of 5 from the people who interacted with the fair. The host towns also highlighted the warm welcome and organisation of the fair, giving it an average rating of 4 out of 5. As a result, Klima Azoka reinforced its role as a meeting place for institutions and citizens to promote sustainable habits and move towards a more responsible, sustainable energy model.
ASTEKLIMA 2025 Awards
For the second consecutive year, ASTEKLIMA will recognise the most inspiring initiatives carried out at this edition. The aim of the ASTEKLIMA 2025 Awards is to publicly highlight the best activities in the field of energy transition and climate action, raising awareness about the commitment of institutions, companies, education centres and citizens to a more sustainable, just development model.
The winning projects will be announced in the coming weeks. With these awards, ASTEKLIMA has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting new ideas, sharing experiences and consolidating an active Basque network to tackle climate change and the energy transition.
