ASTEKLIMA 2025 calls for citizen mobilisation to achieve a more sustainable energy model and a society that has adapted and is resilient to climate change

25/09/2025

Basque Country Climate and Energy Week will be held between October 17 and 26.

The 2025 edition strengthens ASTEKLIMA's role as an initiative to mobilise and raise public awareness of climate change and the energy transition.

Proposals that transform citizens' commitment into concrete actions can be submitted up to October 10.

The Basque Government has launched a line of aid for local entities to organise actions in their municipalities as part of ASTEKLIMA 2025.

Basque Country Climate and Energy Week (ASTEKLIMA 2025) is calling on Basque society to mobilise between October 17 and 26 to make progress in the energy transition and adapting to and mitigating climate change, with the aim of promoting individual and collective actions that will lead the Basque Country towards a more sustainable energy model and a society that is better adapted and more resilient to climate change. ASTEKLIMA is an initiative promoted by the public company Ihobe and the Basque Energy Agency-EVE of the Department of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability of the Basque Government.

For ten days, Basque Country Climate and Energy Week will roll out a programme of actions organised by local public bodies, public and private educational and vocational training centres, universities, non-governmental organisations and other social and economic actors, which will be open to all citizens.

To this end, ASTEKLIMA 2025 has opened the call for new activities to be included in the agenda of Basque Country Climate and Energy Week. The activities proposed should be free and open to the public, and should be aimed at moving on from “knowing” to “doing” in areas such as energy in the home, mobility, responsible consumption, the circular economy, nature and health. Priority will be given to aspects such as pedagogical clarity, impact and participation, accessibility and inclusion, and consistency with energy transition and climate messages when evaluating the proposals submitted, while also assessing their replicability.

Use the form available on the asteklima.eus website to register up to 10:00 am on October 10. All information is available on the asteklima.eus website.

ASTEKLIMA 2025 awards for the best initiatives

ASTEKLIMA 2025 will once again recognise the efforts of Basque entities in relation to awareness-raising and co-responsibility of citizens with regard to climate change and the energy transition. All proposals accepted for inclusion in the 2025 edition of ASTEKLIMA are eligible to apply for this call.

The awards will recognise initiatives carried out in municipalities and regions of different sizes, and outstanding projects in the educational, social and economic fields. In total, six prizes will be awarded with a diploma. Two of these awards –those to educational centres and NGOs– will also receive a cash prize of 1,000 euros, as well as a diploma.

Subsidies to local authorities

The Basque Government has set up a line of aid to encourage participation at regional and municipal level. The Order in relation to grants aimed at local entities, published by the Basque Government on September 25, includes activities that are carried out with the aim of calling citizens to action in the fight against climate change and that are held during Basque Country Climate and Energy Week (ASTEKLIMA 2025) as eligible for funding.

The types of activities that raise awareness and promote citizen co-responsibility in relation to climate change and the energy transition that may be eligible for funding include: talks and conferences, workshops and exhibitions, storytelling, cinema, theatre, video, photography and other competitions, visits/tours, outings and walks, as well as other types of activities proposed by the organisations.

The grant will not exceed 80% of the amount of eligible expenses for entities whose scope of action is greater than 7,000 inhabitants, or 95% of eligible expenses for entities whose scope of action is less than 7,000 inhabitants.

Organisers must announce the final details of their event at least 15 days before the start of ASTEKLIMA, via the website. This information will allow us to disseminate all activities jointly. They must also use the official materials and formats created for Basque Country Climate and Energy Week 2025.
