This innovative resource has been presented within the framework of the World Environmental Education Day.
The project, steered by UZEI, has been possible thanks to the collaboration between AZTI, BC3, Ihobe, Naturklima and Kutxa Fundazioa.
Within the framework of the World Environmental Education Day on 26th January, the new Climate Change and Ecological Transition Dictionary has just been presented. It is an innovative resource for professionals working in Basque in fields related to climate change and ecological transition.
Climate change and ecological transition is a broad and cross-cutting issue that involves terms from several disciplines. Although more and more concepts are emerging in this field, many of them are not yet included in reference terminology databases and dictionaries.
The main objective of this new tool is to compile and unify specialised vocabulary in Basque, which is required by actors and institutions devoted to climate change and ecological transition. The result is the Dictionary of Climate Change and Ecological Transition, a resource that consolidates this terminology and helps to promote the use and guarantee the transmission of Basque in these fields.
The dictionary includes 228 terminology sheets, each devoted to a specific concept. These sheets present the equivalent terms proposed in Basque, as well as the corresponding terms in Spanish, French and English, which also enables users to carry out searches based on these languages. Furthermore, each sheet includes a definition of the corresponding concept.
For ease of reference, the terminology sheets are organised by subject: Climate and Climate Change; Climate Action; Mitigation; Adaptation; Equitable Transition; and reference agreements, texts and institutions.
The Dictionary of Climate Change and Ecological Transition has been developed in accordance with the quality standards of the UZEI Terminology and Lexicography Centre, and also complies with the rules and recommendations of the Basque language authorities.
