Measuring social impact takes centre stage in the third edition of the Education for Sustainability 2030 School
25/06/2024
The third edition of the Education for Sustainability 2030 School will take place on 4th and 5th July 2024 at Miramar Palace in Donostia.
Ecosocial change is key to fulfilling both the Sustainable Development Goals and those set by the Basque Green Deal; in short, a transformation to build a more sustainable, equitable and resilient future for our society. However, how do we measure progress? How do we identify effective measures? Do we implement advances and steer management based on results?
In order to answer these and other questions, the third edition of the Education for Sustainability School will work on the foundations of social and socio-environmental impact measurement and management.
The course will foster the exchange of ideas and the dissemination of best practices in this field, reflecting on the challenges of its application by promoting the implementation of impact management models in the fields of environmental education and sustainable development.
Over two days, the course will include lectures and round table discussions to shed light on this process of social change. The initiative is aimed primarily at teachers, professionals, people involved in environmental education and management, and impact measurement professionals, but it may also be of interest to the general public.
After the institutional opening by Xabier González Vegas, Director of Environmental Sustainability at Ihobe and co-director of this course, the Director of Public Policy Innovation at Red 2 Red, Anabel Suso Araico, will answer key questions in the inaugural presentation: "Why do we evaluate impact? How do the benchmark institutions do it?
At the end of the first day, there will be a practical workshop: "Building my roadmap to impact. The theory of change" coordinated by María Rubio Zavala from Stone-Soup Consulting and Iñigo Benedicto Arbizu from Sinnple, socio-environmental impact.
The second day will kick off with the talk: "The challenge of measuring the impact of Ekoetxea, the Basque Country's network of environmental centres", which will be given by Ainhoa Díez de Salazar Gutiérrez from Ihobe, technical manager of the Ekoetxea Network of Environmental Centres.
The round table will then discuss the "challenges in measuring the impact of environmental education programmes", moderated by Xabier González Vegas, which will be followed by the rest of the day's programme.
The full programme is available on the Sustainability School website.
The school context
The Education for Sustainability School is developed in the context of UIK, the UPV's summer courses, and the Donostia Sustainability Forum (DSF), in which both institutions collaborate. DSF is an initiative created by the UPV-EHU Summer Courses Foundation for the interdisciplinary handling of sustainability from an environmental, social and economic perspective.
The Education for Sustainability 2030 School takes place at the Miramar Palace in Donostia - San Sebastian, and is an opportunity for agents and professionals to meet in a unique location. Each year, it offers training and promotes the exchange of reflections and knowledge related to education for sustainability. Through this initiative, both the UPV-EHU and Ihobe aim to promote a fair and harmonious relationship among human beings and with nature that involves dynamics of equality, equity and social justice.
